After the 2025 season officially concludes for the Toronto Blue Jays, the team will have some big decisions to make on which free agents to sign or re-sign. The biggest free agent the Blue Jays have on their roster is Bo Bichette.

Along with Bichette, this upcoming offseason is filled with talented players for teams to draw interest in, and one is a four-time All-Star that can fit well in the top of the Blue Jays order and provide the kind of defense that the Blue Jays covet.

Blue Jays named a potential suitor for Kyle Tucker

Recently, Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report wrote an article titled "Ranking Cubs OF Kyle Tucker's Top 10 Landing Spots Ahead of MLB Free Agency." One of the 10 teams Reuter named for Tucker as a landing spot is the Blue Jays.

Even though the Blue Jays did commit to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. this past April by extending him to a 14-year, $500 million contract, Reuter said "it's not out of the question" to think the Blue Jays could continue to explore the top end of the free-agent market.

Like many suitors the Blue Jays would be attracted to Tucker's track record of offensive production. Since 2022, Tucker has made the All-Star Game every year and is also a former Silver Slugger, Gold Glove winner and 2022 World Series champion with the Houston Astros.

Tucker has been a consistent hitter over the last four seasons, averaging 32 home runs, 160 hits and an OPS of .868. 2025 was his first season with the Chicago Cubs and he helped the Cubs make the postseason for the first time since 2020 by batting .266/.377/.464 with an OPS+ of 143.

If the Blue Jays lose Bichette, Tucker can be a player that potentially replaces the lost offense. Tucker has hit 134 home runs since 2021, and has recorded two seasons of 100 or more RBIs.

The Blue Jays may have a crowded outfield at the moment and bringing in Tucker would only add to that issue, but the Blue Jays will have to make a decision on both Anthony Santander and George Springer.

Santander was the Blue Jays' biggest offseason acquisition going into 2025, signing a five-year deal. However, the first year was a disappointing one, as Santader only played 54 games due to injury and he batted .175 as a result. If Toronto doesn't feel like Santander can recover and get back to being the player they hoped he would be, Tucker would be insurance if they decide to move on from the switch-hitting outfielder.

Springer also factors in with Tucker. 2026 is Springer's last season of his contract. There is no guarantee that Springer will play in Toronto past 2026. If Springer is traded at the 2026 trade deadline or doesn't re-sign after the season, signing Tucker to a multi-year deal would also allow the Blue Jays to have some depth if they lose Springer.

"A willingness to spend is reason enough to put them on this list, but we're still in the longshot category here," Reuter said about the Blue Jays signing Tucker.
