When the Toronto Blue Jays drew the daunting juggernauts from the National League in the Los Angeles Dodgers for their World Series matchup, many believed that the series could be over fast. After all, the Dodgers were the reigning champions and equipped with their same star-studded lineup from last year in their chance to repeat in 2025.
As for the Blue Jays, they weren’t even considered to be a legitimate contender this season after finishing in last place in the American League East in 2024. As a result, they became the surprise of the MLB Playoffs to date, making it all the way to the World Series.
Now four games into the final showdown, the supposedly “David versus Goliath” matchup has basically had a bit of everything. Whether it be an offensive beat down from Game 1 by the Blue Jays, the pitching masterpiece of Yoshinobu Yamamoto for the Dodgers in Game 2, the epic 18-inning marathon in Game 3, or the huge bounce back statement game by the Jays in Game 4, this series has proven to be must-watch television.
Blue Jays legend tells Toronto to buckle up for a long series
That was what Blue Jays legend Joe Carter had envisioned panning out as he toldToronto and their fans should buckle up for a long series. On a recent appearance on MLB Tonight, Carter had this to say about his beloved Blue Jays squad. “I’m very happy that the Jays are in the World Series,” Carter said. “This is going to be a great series … this thing is far from being over with.”

He sure got that right on the spot. When the Blue Jays exploded against one of the hottest pitchers in Blake Snell in the first game, all of a sudden they appeared to have the upper hand against a stunned Dodgers team. But when Yamamoto proved that great pitching can neutralize great hitting, it gave hope back to the Dodgers heading back to Los Angeles.
Then came the physically and emotionally-draining 18-inning classic in Game 3, where whoever came out on top, one would believe that team would have all the momentum to finish off the series. As a result, Freddie Freeman would come through with a home run blast to dead center to give the Dodgers that massive boost of confidence and domination.
However, being the super comeback kids all season, the Jays never let that get to them as they crafted out a perfect Game 4 plan to even up the series once again.
With the way that things are going, going the full seven games certainly wouldn’t be out of the question now. Especially for all the baseball fans out there, most probably won’t want it to ever end with all the drama and excitement in every single game and every single at-bat.
Nevertheless, let’s see what in store for us as the Blue Jays and Dodgers face off in the crucial Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday.
