For the Toronto Blue Jays, things haven’t gone too well ever since Bo Bichette went down with a knee injury in the series against the New York Yankees over two weeks ago. The Blue Jays have struggled without their star shortstop, going just 7-6 in his absence. In particular, the Jays’ offense has gone cold this past week, with only 11 runs scored in their past six games while trying to desperately clinch a postseason berth.

There’s no question that Toronto is missing Bichette big time and hope to have him back as soon as possible. A recent update on that front brings some good news for the Blue Jays as the 27-year-old shortstop appears optimistic as things were progressing well in his recovery, courtesy of TSN.

In fact, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Bichette was “feeling better every day” and has resumed batting practice by doing some light hitting. The next steps would be for the two-time All-Star to start running the bases and resuming play in the field.

Bichette may have had a forgettable 2024 campaign that was filled with injuries and underperformance. But he has certainly bounced back big time for the Jays in 2025, recapturing his prior dominant form in the process. In 139 games played, Bichette has posted a stellar .311 batting average, .840 OPS, along with 78 runs scored, 18 home runs and 94 RBIs. More impressively, he is still leading the entire league in hits (181) and doubles (44) despite missing the last two weeks of action.

Prior to his knee injury, Bichette was actually on a tear, batting an impressive .367 with a 1.017 OPS, together with 26 runs scored, five home runs and 26 RBIs in his previous 30 games while seeing the ball very well with close to a 1-to-1 walk-to-strikeout ratio. That kind of elite offensive output is exactly what the Jays need now with their recent scoring funk.

The key now is when exactly will Bichette be able to rejoin the Jays. Will he be back before the end of the regular season? Probably not, but if he did make it back, many would worry if Toronto rushed him back too soon and ultimately affecting his effectiveness. As a result, the target date will likely be in the postseason.

If the Jays manage to get the first round bye to bypass the Wild Card series, Bichette should be about ready by then. But if they somehow falter in the last week of the regular season and fall into the Wild Card round, then there’s a possibility that Toronto will need to grind it through without their star shortstop depending on how fast he will be back to full health.

Nevertheless, the sooner Bichette is at full strength, the better the chances the Jays will have success going forward. So for both winning and Bichette’s sake, let’s capture the American League East title no matter how daunting the task may be with games against Boston and Tampa Bay to finish off the season and finish in the top two in the AL to get the bye.
