The Toronto Blue Jays already ended the New York Yankees season earlier than the Bronx Bombers had anticipated, and if watching a team celebrate their series clinching win on your home turf wasn't bad enough, the Blue Jays could start the Yankees offseason with some further infuriating news.
On Monday, FanSided exclusively announced the nominations for this years Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger awards and once again, the Blue Jays and the Yankees are going head-to-head. While the Seattle Mariners are also a finalist for the Team Silver Slugger award, and a very deserving one at that, the Blue Jays have a chance to show the Yankees what a real team should look like.
Blue Jays have chance to show Yankees what a real team is in AL Silver Slugger chase
The Yankees were a team that was larely a one-trick pony. That one trick certainly can do a lot of damage as they led all of MLB with 274 home runs, but they also struck out a ton, 1463 times to be exact. The only teams with more strikeouts were the Angels (1627) and Rockies (1531) - not the best company you want to be in.
They also ranked sixth in the American League with 1371 hits, and fifth with a .251 batting average. However, they did lead the league with a 119 wRC+ and .204 ISO which are two areas that directly reflect the kind of big damage they were capable of inflicting.
Comparatively though, the Blue Jays were a team that used a full-team, relentless, next man up approach to carve their way to a 94-68 record and the AL East division title. Toronto had the best batting average at .265 and a .298 team BABIP. They had the best strikeout percentage at 17.8% and led the league with 1461 hits.

While their 191 home runs were tied for sixth in the AL, they still manufactured runs among the leagues best, sitting at a 112 wRC+ which was third behind the Yankees and the Mariners (113). The Blue Jays also had the best OBP (.332) the third best SLG (.427) and second best OPS (.761).

The Blue Jays also took care of business against the Yankees with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer, Addison Barger, Nathan Lukes and Ernie Clement all getting 10+ hits against the Yankees this season, while Toronto also outscored New York 70-59 in those head-to-head games.
The Blue Jays hung on to the AL East title, they beat the Yankees in the ALDS and now they have a chance to take home the team Silver Slugger award, snatching it out the Yankees grasp.
