Fresh off hitting one of the biggest home runs in Toronto Blue Jays history, George Springer has been named as a finalist for some MLB hardware. The 36-year-old veteran who put up some of the best numbers in his tenure as a Blue Jay has been nominated for the Silver Slugger award as a Designated Hitter - and he should be the easy winner.
Blue Jays hero might have easiest path of any AL Silver Slugger finalist
No offence to Yandy Díaz of the Tampa Bay Rays and Brent Rooker of the Athletics, but Springer's 2025 season was just miles above the rest. When it comes to power numbers, Springer led all designated hitters with 32 home runs, a .560 slugging percentage and a .959 OPS.
Now, both Diaz and Rooker have him beat in terms of overall hits. Diaz leads with 175, Rooker has 164 and Springer trails with 154. However, Springer also leads in batting average (.309) and OBP (.399). His wRC+ of 166 (via FanGraphs) was also more than 30 points higher than Diaz's 135 and more than 40 points higher than Rooker's 122. His 5.2 fWAR led the group as well and so did his offensive fWAR of 48.5.

Right across the board, Springer's numbers were a vast improvement from his previous campaign, which was statistically one of the worst of his career. He showed more patience at the plate, indicated by his 11.8% walk rate, which ties his career best number in that category, and his .340 BABIP was the highest of his career since he posted a .342 BABIP in 102 games in his age 25 season in 2015.
Springer's season at the plate was so spectacular that it also earned him a nomination to receive a Silver Slugger award as an outfielder as well, despite only playing 54 games in the Blue Jays outfield. It remains to be seen if Springer will be named for any other awards this year, although it's likely he'll make a case for the American League's Comeback Player of the Year award as well.

Regardless, when it was announced earlier today, exclusively via Fansided.com that Springer was among those chosen as the AL's Silver Slugger DH nominations, it almost feels like a guarantee that Springer will bring home his third career Silver Slugger award.
