After a few weeks of hype, build up and anticipation the Super Bowl was a super dud. Congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks on their victory, but all they and the New England Patriots proved is that sometimes the big game is nothing but a big boring slog.
Especially compared to the 2025 World Series in which the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers told a story full of drama, excitement and memorable moments over a seven game series that went down to the wire.
Blue Jays - Dodgers World Series was superior to the Super Bowl in every way
Sure, the Blue Jays and the Dodgers got seven games to let that story play out, while the Seahawks and Patriots only got one night, but such is the nature of their respectives sports. And besides, does anyone want to see those two teams play again anytime soon?
In contrast, Blue Jays and the Dodgers matchup in early April during the 2026 campaign and that's a rematch that should draw some impressive early season ratings. It will no doubt stir up the memories of what happened just a few months ago when every single play felt big from the opening pitch in Toronto in Game One, to the final out at Rogers Centre in Game 7.
While the Super Bowl is being called a "defensive gem" the Blue Jays and the Dodgers showed how fun defense can actually look. Whether that was rookie Trey Yesavage mowing down hitters in historic fashion, or Andy Pages coming off the bench to snatch victory away from the Blue Jays off an Ernie Clement deep fly ball that send Game 7 to extra innings. There was no shortage of momentum turning plays in the field that helped set this World Series apart.
When it comes to offense, there wasn't a single touchdown in the game until the fourth quarter. Meantime, Game 5 of the World Series was started with the Blue Jays hitting back-to-back home runs. One team scored at least five runs in each of the seven games, outside of Game 6 which ended 3-1 for the Dodgers, in an impressively pitched World Series game Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Once the game got into the fourth quarter, everyone was watching the clock, counting down the enivitable that the Seahawks were going to be Super Bowl champions. The World Series was decided by a single run in extra innings in Game 7.
MLB has an issue on their hands. There’s potentially a lockout coming after the 2026 season and it couldn’t be happening at a worse time. The Blue Jays and the Dodgers just showed the world how exciting and entertaining MLB’s championship deciding series can be and for the sake of the fans, the powers at be would do well to fix the issues plaguing them before games get cancelled.
in the meantime, with footballs biggest game behind us, it’s time for baseball to step up and take over the spotlight again.
