It's fun looking back at the past to see what the future may hold

The Toronto Blue Jays just experienced one of their most disappointing seasons in franchise history, especially considering how high the expectations were when the year started. By no means are they an abysmal franchise because they have tasted success in the past. It's just that those periods of success feel extremely distant at the moment.

The Blue Jays haven't won a postseason game in 2,900 days and counting, but those 2015 and 2016 clubs will always have fans buzzing. Those were some of the most electric moments in not only franchise history, but also baseball history. Those runs show how electric the stadium and city can be when the team is clicking on all levels.

The Blue Jays make it count. They may not have many championships in the trophy case or even that many postseason appearances. When they do find themselves in those moments, however, they punctuate it with a boatload of incredible moments and dramatic sequences. How's that for comfort when we have to watch the division rival Yankees in this year's World Series?

When's the last time the Blue Jays won the World Series?

Toronto Blue Jays' championship history and World Series appearances

The Blue Jays have two World Series championships in their 48-year history. 1992 against the Atlanta Braves and 1993 against the Philadelphia Phillies. In fact, those are the only two pennants in team history. They have appeared in five other LCS' and lost every single one of them. Toss in the three recent failures of the Wild Card series and that is the extent of the Blue Jays in the postseason. As mentioned, they don't get to the postseason very often, even though they do produce some incredible memories once they get there.

What is the longest World Series drought in Toronto Blue Jays history?

The Jays are in the midst of their longest World Series drought at 31 years. Of course, this is only a franchise that was founded in 1977 and experienced a lot of lean years early on. The LCS appearances in the late 80's began to put some of those dark days in the rearview mirror. Then came the back-to-back championship years. However, from 1993 until 2015, they only once finished higher than third place in the AL East. That 2006 season saw them win 87 but finish 10 back and head home once again. At this rate, Toronto fans would be happy just to appear in the Fall Classic.

History of Toronto Blue Jays World Series MVPs

Pat Borders was the winner for the 1992 team and Paul Molitor in 1993. Borders may be least likely player to win MVP, but he got on a heater at the right time and carried a lineup when other stars were struggling. Honestly, it reminds you of how Steve Pearce took home the honors for Boston in a lineup with much bigger stars around him. Borders didn't hit much during the regular season, but batted .450 with a .500 OBP for the MVP honors when it mattered.

Younger baseball fans may remember the Minnesota native for his time managing the Twins, but Molitor can probably still drink for free in southern Ontario. Molitor is in the Hall of Fame on the back of a fantastic career in which he accumulated 3,319 hits and was a seven time All-Star. In the 1993 season he swatted a career-high 22 home runs, which Molitor only ratcheted up in the playoffs, batting .500 in the World Series with two home runs.
