Blue Jays break another record set during World Series years

The Toronto Blue Jays have made it their identity in 2025 that they are never truly out of a game. Their 5-4 ninth inning walk-off against the Orioles on Saturday was their ninth walk-off victory of the season and 45th time they have come from behind to win a ball game.

For the third time this year it was Alejandro Kirk delivering the clutch hit. Kirk is having his best offensive season and while he was mired in an 0-19 slump at the plate, he came off the bench and came through in not one, but two huge moments for the Blue Jays on Saturday. In his first pinch hit at-bat in the bottom of the eighth in singled in Ernie Clement to get the Blue Jays to within a run, making it 3-2 Orioles.

The Blue Jays then rallied in the ninth by stringing together four singles, a catchers interference call and Kirk's sac fly, to score three runs and walkoff their division rivals for their 45th come from behind win.

The come from behind victory set a new franchise record for the Blue Jays surpassing the 44 come from behind wins set by the 1993 World Series Champions and it's not the first time this season they have done something to compare themselves to the teams of their championship seasons.

When the Blue Jays reached 50 wins, it was quicker than any other time in franchise history they got to that mark since 1992. They reached the 50 win plateau just 88 games into the season. When they reached the All-Star break they were 54-38, the most wins before the All-Star break since the '92 Jays went 53-34 before the midsummer classic.

Of course these milestones are a great barometer of achievement for this years club, especially considering the preseason predictions. They were given very little odds of just getting to the postseason, let alone being in contention for the AL East title this late into September. However, the best way to measure their success against those teams would be a deep run in October. They are on the right path to achieving that as of Sunday morning (September 14) their magic number to clinch the division is down to 13, while the magic number just to get to the playoffs is at six.

Speaking of clinching the division title, the Blue Jays did that in back-to-back seasons in 1992-93 and have only managed to do that once since then, which they accomplished in 2015.
