The Toronto Blue Jays may be staggering towards the finish line but luckily they have already guaranteed themselves a spot in this year’s playoffs.
Looking ahead to the upcoming postseason, the Blue Jays will have important decisions to make with regards to their playoff roster.

Especially with key players such as Bo Bichette, Chris Bassitt and now even José Berríos currently on the injured list, they could have a huge effect on who ends up being included in their postseason run. As a result, let’s take a look at 7 Jays players that are on the playoff roster bubble as of this moment.

OF Joey Loperfido

Joey Loperfido actually didn’t start the year with the Jays, but when he finally got his opportunity in early July due to injuries, Loperfido ran away with it. In 30 games between July 6 to August 15, the 26-year-old outfielder was one of the best hitters on the team as he batted a stellar .358 with a .915 OPS, along with 10 runs scored, three home runs and 10 RBIs in just 81 at-bats.

Due to the numbers game and the fact that he still had options available, he was sent back down to the minors mid-August but had since returned in early September.

However, not only has Loperfido lost playing time, as he has been primarily used just as a pinch hitter or defensive replacement, but he has also lost much of his offensive flare, hitting just .200 with a .667 OPS in just 15 plate appearances over 11 games of action.

Just based on his usage alone, his chances of cracking the postseason roster appears to be slipping by the day, barring any injuries to the Jays’ other outfielders.

UTIL Isiah Kiner-Falefa

A waiver addition prior to September, Isiah Kiner-Falefa was expected to provide some decent value both offensively and defensively off the bench after returning to Toronto for their stretch run. However, outside of a couple of key hits in his first few games back, Kiner-Falefa had since gone eight straight games without a hit until his home run against the Boston Red Sox this past Tuesday.

In total, the veteran utilityman has posted a .241 average, .646 OPS, along with five runs scored, one home run and five RBIs in 15 games played with the Jays.

If solid defense is mainly what Toronto needs off the bench, then the versatility of Kiner-Falefa will play well during the postseason. However, if the Jays are looking for some extra offensive power coming off the bench, they could turn to other options instead.
