The Toronto Blue Jays have had a solid start to 2025, but that doesn't mean that they're a team without weaknesses. Here are three weak spots that have popped up through the first week of the season.
3 surprising trouble spots for Blue Jays that have already emerged
Pitching depth
There's no doubt that the Blue Jays have established starters, but their rotation and bullpen lack depth.
One of the biggest hits to their depth was the injury to Ricky Tiedemann, who was projected to play a part in the team's big league pitching this year. The Blue Jays do have Jake Bloss, who was acquired at the trade deadline last year and could step in in a pinch when needed.

The Blue Jays have also experienced blows to their bullpen thanks to Erik Swanson and Ryan Burr starting the season on the injured list. They also already had to make cuts on the MLB side of the roster after Richard Lovelady for DFA'd to make room for hard-throwing rookie Mason Fluharty.
Fluharty recorded a strikeout in his first appearance but allowed two runs while failing to get an out in his most recent outing.
The starting rotation's depth has also been impacted lately thanks to Max Scherzer's thumb injury. Easton Lucas was called up in his spot and threw five solid innings, but there aren't a ton of options behind him.
The farm system
Not only is Blue Jays' farm system ranked pretty low (No. 27 overall per MLB Pipeline) but it also lacks high-end talent. It doesn't help that injuries to prospects like Teidemann and Brandon Barriera have impacted things as well.
That lack of talent means that there's even more pressure on top prospects like Arjun Nimmala and Trey Yesavage. They both have bright futures, but the farm system is weak outside of them. If they don't get things going, the future might not be that bright for the Blue Jays.

Offense
While the Blue Jays added to their offense by signing Anthony Santander in the offseason, the Jays are still in the midst of a power outage to start the season. Santander has also gotten off to a slow start this season this season (.194 batting average).
While they've had some big games on offense, their 12-2 loss to the Orioles on Opening Day was a harbinger of things to come.

Last season, they struggled with scoring runs and home runs and finished with a 74-88 record, which was last in the American League East.
The Blue Jays hired David Popkins to be their hitting coach in the offseason in the hopes of boosting the offense, and so far the results have been mixed.
They're still struggling to pick up the big hit with runners on base. In total, the Blue Jays left 28 batters were left on base in the New York Mets series and went 2-for-21 with RISP.
