3 Blue Jays players everyone thinks will be traded at the deadline but won't move

With the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline rapidly approaching, several Toronto Blue Jays players are creating chatter in the rumor mill as trade candidates. It is easy to understand why, as the Blue Jays are expected to be sellers.

There is a real chance that the Blue Jays will trade some significant players between now and the deadline. While the Blue Jays have many trade candidates who could get moved by the deadline, it's also likely that they won't trade every single one of them.

A few Blue Jays who many believe will get moved by the deadline could actually stay put in Toronto are Louis Varland, Ernie Clement, and Tyler Rogers. While all three of these players would have the potential to get the Blue Jays solid returns, it would also make sense if they kept them around.

Why the Blue Jays should keep Varland, Clement, and Rogers in Toronto

Sure, there is an argument to be had that the Blue Jays should consider selling high on Varland at the deadline. It is understandable, as he is in the middle of a spectacular season for the Blue Jays and could get them a great return in a move. In 47 appearances this season, the 6-foot-1 lefty has a 1.04 ERA, 21 saves, and 70 strikeouts.

However, with how dominant Varland has been this season, the Blue Jays would likely be better off keeping him around. He would be a very difficult reliever to replace, and trading him would also not help Toronto's chances of bouncing back next season.

Clement is another Blue Jay who has been the subject of trade speculation. There is no question that contenders would love to acquire Clement, as he is in the middle of an excellent All-Star season. In 103 games, he has eight home runs, 33 RBI, and a .297 batting average. He also leads the AL with 25 doubles.

However, with Clement signed being under team control until the end of the 2029 season, it would not be particularly surprising if he stayed put. He has hit a new level this season and is absolutely worth keeping around.

Clement has been worth 3.2 offensive fWAR and has been posting some of the best numbers of his career. Through 103 games, the 30-year-old has slashed .297/.322/.426 with eight home runs and a 109 wRC+.

As for Rogers, he has proven to be a great addition to the Blue Jays' bullpen this season. In 48 games, he has an impressive 1.54 ERA to go along with 26 strikeouts.

With Rogers being locked up for multiple seasons, it would make more sense for Toronto to hold onto him. He has been too valuable of an addition to their bullpen.
