Blue Jays Podcast #50: News, Rumors & Goodbyes

facebooktwitterreddit

Episode 50 of the Jays’ Nest Podcast is a good one! Not only does it share the same number as legendary Blue Jays closer, Tom Henke, it features some great discussion in what seemed like a very busy week for the Toronto Blue Jays. While not many major moves happened, there were still plenty of discussion points. We look at the latest news, we react to meeting the new GM, the state of pitching and we say goodbye to David Price.

In this Week’s Episode:

  • Blue Jays introduced their new GM, Ross Atkins, which doesn’t really have a major impact on how the club will proceed through the winter Meetings and the rest of the offseason.

  • Dioner Navarro left to take a one year deal with the White Sox. We looked at what this means for Marco Estrada. Will he be OK pitching to Russell Martin? who wouldn’t?
  • The cost of impact bullpen pieces seems to be quite high this offseason. What does that mean for the Blue Jays as they have some rather heavy lifting to do in that area?
  • Edwin Encarnacion has set a deadline for his contract negotiations. Can the club work out an extension with him before the season starts? Will the time frame even be a factor?
  • For some reason the rumors still fly about the Blue Jays and their engagement with free agent slugger, Chris Davis. We look at how much of a pipe dream this is for people who might get excited by the idea.
  • In another segment of Jays’ Nest Theatre, I pen an emotional goodbye letter to David Price as he brings his talents to Beantown. Let it be the final word on the story that doesn’t seem to want to die.
  • We also take a reader question about maintaining sanity during the offseason.
