Episode #49 of the Jays’ Nest Podcast brings you the fallout discussion from J.A. Happ returning to the Blue Jays on a 3 year deal. After introducing Jays’ Nest Theatre, we sift through the initial anger and frustration from Blue Jays fans to evaluate the deal on its merits. We discuss the impact this deal will have on the rest of the pitching staff both in the rotation and the bullpen. We take some reader questions and sit down with Jason Rollison of RumBunter.com who do a great job of covering the Pittsburgh Pirates. We asked him for his perspective on the Happ deal.

  • We broke down our reaction to the 3yr/$36M deal that Happ signed to return to Toronto, a team that traded him away for Michael Saunders. Can we trust his late season turn around in Pittsburgh? Is the deal still valuable if he reverts back to the old Happ?
  • Are the Blue Jays done shopping? With lots left to do can they be? Is there enough depth in the rotation? We look at how the pitching staff in general stacks up currently and whether the Blue Jays are ready to defend their AL East title.
  • We take a couple reader/listener questions. The first asks about Vladimir Guerrero Jr, while the other asks us to compare the free agent approaches that interim GM, Tony LaCava and former GM, Alex Anthopoulos have.
  • We sit down for a chat with Jason Rollison of RumBunter.com to get his Pirates perspective of the Happ deal and we work out a trade that would bring a effective reliever to Toronto.
