Buffalo Bisons vs Syracuse Chiefs (Loss 0-3)

Drew Hutchison made his Bisons season debut Sunday.  This is expected to be his only start before being called back up to the majors to be the Jays 5th starter again.  The Blue Jays schedule had 3 off day in just a few days which allowed a 4 man rotation for the next week or so to be possible.  Hutch would get a few starts in Buffalo to stay sharp.  He did start off the game a little rough as he gave up a run in each of the first 2 innings.  Those would be the only runs he would allow over a short 4 innings of work.  Hutch threw 71 pitches and 43 of them were strikes.  Command is the key for Hutch having success and he walked 3 batters in 4 innings while striking out 4.  The bullpen would hold the Chiefs and only allow 1 more run to be scored.

Please see Shaun’s article for a full look at Drew Hutchison’s performance.

To say the Herd had issues with Chiefs pitching would be an understatement.  They were just unable to get anything going at all Sunday.  Paolo Espino held the Bisons to just 1 hit over 7 innings.  The Bisons would only manage 1 more through out the remaining 3 innings.  Ty Kelly and Caleb Gindl would be the only hitters with a hit.

Matt Hague was optioned back to the Bisons from the Blue Jays

New Hampshire Fisher Cats vs Binghampton Mets (Win 4-3)

Taylor Cole pitched a stellar outing Sunday and put the Cats in a great position to win this game.  Cole shut out the Mets for 8 innings but as he went for the complete game in the 9th he ran into a wall.  The wall was names Josh Rodriguez and he belted a 2 run homer to knock Cole out of the game.  Cole would pitch 8 innings allowing just the 2 earned runs on the homer.  He also struck out 6 and only walked 2.  Cole gave way to Danny Barnes who now had to fight the confident Mets.  Barnes was able to squash the Mets comeback after allowing a run.  He would pick up the save which was his 4th of the season.

The offense proved to have just enough pop to support Cole’s excellent start.  A plethora of RBI doubles would be the difference makers.  The 3 doubles would drive in the majority of the Cat runs.  Roemon Fields, Dwight Smith Jr., and  Shane Opitz would each tally a double during the game.  A solid game for the Cats and they were able to hold on after giving up a 3 run start to the inning in the 9th.

Line of the game

Taylor Cole 8 IP, 7 hits, 2 ER, 2 walks, 6 Strike outs

Dunedin Blue Jays @ Tampa Yankees (Win 8-5)

An early lead in this one turned into a constant rally for the Tampa Yanks.  Alonzo Gonzalez got the ball rolling well for the D-Jays as he pitched a solid 4 innings.  He allowed 6 hits but was able to scatter them through out the innings and came up big when he needed an out.  He did not allow a run through his 4 innings.  The D-Jays bullpen did not fair as well as Gonzalez as they would surrender all 5 runs and allow the Yankees to think they were still in this game.  Griffin Murphy and Brady Dragmire would surrender all the runs.  Wil Browning would come on and finally slam the door shut in the 9th after the Yanks scored 3 in the inning.

Derrick Loveless helped get the offense going as he popped his 10th homer of the season with a runner on in the 4th.  Loveless showed no love for Tampa pitching as he would go on to have an amazing day as he went 2-3 with the homer and a double while driving in 2 and scoring twice.  Jason Leblebijian also had a banner day as he rocked 4 RBI’s in a stellar 3-4 with 2 doubles in his performance.  The solid offense picked up the bullpen while they held the off to win this one.

Line of the game

Jason Leblebijian 3-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI’s
