MiLB Recap – Bisons walk off, Canadians erupt

Buffalo Bisons @ Columbus Clippers (Win 4-3)

A close 12 inning ball game becomes a Herd win as Dalton Pompey walks off the Clippers.  A solid combined pitching effort lead to the Bison comeback.  Matt Boyd had a rough 2nd inning where he allowed 2 runs but for the rest of the outing pitched well.  He allowed only 5 hits over 7 innings.  He did allow 3 earned runs but struck out 6 and only walked 1 batter.  Todd Redmond, Bobby Korecky, Rob Rasmussen each pitched in a scoreless inning to keep the team in the fight.  Chad Jenkins would come on and get the win after pitching 2 innings and striking out 2.

Solid pitching paved the way for the Herd offense.  Matt Hague kicked off the dramatic comeback with a 3 run homer off of Tyler Sturdevant in the 8th.  The home run tied the game for the time led the game into extra innings.  In the 12th Clippers pitcher Trey Haley walked 3 batters which brought Pompey to the plate.  Pompey dug in and popped a single up the middle to win the game.  During Pompey’s post game interview he credited the pitching staff for keeping the Bisons in the game.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats @ Portland Sea Dogs (Loss 0-2)

The Fisher Cats we just unable to solve the puzzle that was the Sea Dogs pitching Sunday.  Lead by Mike McCarthy the Dog pitching proved to be a tough shell to crack.  The Cats were able to collect only 3 hits during the game.  Fisher Cat starter John Andreson countered well as he picked up a quality start but was saddled with the loss.  He pitched 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs.  Only one of those runs would be earned due to a fielding error at 3rd base.  The 2 run lead for the Sea Dogs would be uncrackable for the Cat offense.

John Anderson 6.1 innings, 9 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and 2 strike outs.

Dunedin Blue Jays vs Daytona Tortugas (loss 3-5)

Errors lead to 3 runs Sunday for the Tortugas.  The D-Jays offense fought to stay in the game but came up short.  Rowdy Tellez hit his 6th home run of his short D-Jays career thus far.  Andy Fermin collected 2 RBI’s and a triple in his 1-3 performance.  Murphy Smith pitched 4.2 innings and allowed 1 of the 4 runs during those innings.  Luis Santos pitched 4.1 innings where he struck out 5.  The poor defense lead to this loss and just made it to hard for the offense to make up.

The Lugnut pitching could just not get started it seemed Sunday.  Justin Shafer pitched the first 2.1 innings but gave up 3 runs on 4 hits.  Dusty Isaacs came on and also gave 3 runs in 3.2 innings.  Carlos Ramirez pitched the remainder and bucked the trend just a little bit as he gave up 1 run in the 2 innings.  The offense had just as many issues getting the machine going as the pitching staff.  They were able to collect 6 hits and 3 walked batters but were unable to get anything big going.  Christian Vazquez went 2-2 with a double, 2 walks, a run scored, and an RBI.  This was a team loss and a solid performance for the Loons.  There were some opportunities to score some more with the Loon errors but just not enough big opportunities to string some runs together.

Vancouver Canadians vs Eugene Emeralds (Win 16-5)

A 10 run first inning set the tone early for the Canadians.  Scoring 14 runs total in the first 3 innings buried the Emeralds early.  Seven extra base hits total for the C’s kept the base runners circling the bases as the hit parade was on.  The Canadian’s had 20 hits and a number of excellent performances Sunday.  Lane Thomas and Carl Wise collected 4 RBI’s each to lead the attack.  The onslaught continued as Justin Atkinson went 4-4 with an RBI and scored twice.  Gunnar Heidt and Ryan Hissey each had a pair of doubles and scored 3 times.  Just an incredible offensive showing for the C’s

Clinton Hollon pitched 4 innings and allowed 2 runs.  His successor Josh DeGraaf also allowed 2 runs but picked up the win.  Michael Kraft shut the door in the last 2 innings but worked into some trouble as he allowed 2 walks and a pair of hits which led to a run.  The pitching got a break with all the offense happening.  Lets hope the bats keep rolling for the C’s
