Buffalo Bisons vs Charlotte Knights (Loss 1-2)

Blue Jays prospect Matt Boyd makes his Triple-A debut and looked stellar.  The big lefty pitched a solid 7 innings and only allowed 1 earned run.  The earned run did come from a Trayce Thompson solo home run but that was the one blemish on a phenomenal first start for Boyd.  The bullpen held down the fort and did not allow a run over the last 2 innings but the offense just could not figure things out.  Former Jays prospect Kyle Drabek out dueled Boyd and was able to get the win.  I will be looking forward to Boyd’s next start where he hopefully gets his first Triple-A win.

The Bisons offense just could not capitalize on opportunities against Drabek.  They were able to get runners on but they went 1-8 with runners in scoring position.  Luke Scott went 2-4 with the only RBI for the Herd.  Ramon Santiago also went 2-4 but the rest of the offense was pretty flat.  They were unable to cash in on any of the 7 hits that they collected.

Scott Copeland was recalled to the Blue Jays to fill in for Aaron Sanchez.  Sanchez was placed on the DL

New Hampshire Fisher Cats @ Altoona Curve (Loss 6-7)

Fisher Cat pitching had a rough start to the game.  Austin Bidens-Dirkx pitched 4 innings and allowed 4 runs which included a home run to Jose Osuna.  Jimmy Cordero came on and did not fair any better.  He allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 1 inning of work.  Finally Luis Perez and Dustin Antolin showed that the Cats can get people out and pitched 3 innings combined and allowed only 1 hit.  The hole dug by the pitching would be a difficult climb for their offense.

The Cats were able to collect 6 runs them selves but were unable to cap the rally in the final inning.  The bottom of the Cat lineup continues their recent hot streak.  Shane Opitz now has RBI’s in 3 straight games and went 2-3.  The bottom 4 batters in the lineup Sunday collected 8 of the 11 Fisher Cat hits.  The top of the lineup did their job by plating a many of those base runners.  They could have done better platting runs seeing they went 4-11 with runners in scoring position, but they came close to squeaking this one out.

Dunedin Blue Jays vs Lakeland Flying Tigers (Win 7-2)

The day was led by offense but solid pitching kept the Tigers from flying to high.  Luis Santos pitched a solid 5.2 innings and allowed only 2 runs on 5 hits.  Santos also recorded 8 strike outs and only allowed 1 free pass.  The 2 runs knocked Santos from the game in the 6, but Alberto Tirado came on to keep the Tigers down.  He allowed only 3 hits over the remaining 3.1 innings.

The offense came out of the gate red hot.  The D-Jays rocked Tigers pitcher Locke St. John for 7 runs in the first inning.  St. John was chased from the game after recording only 2 outs.  The Tigers bullpen would prove to be efficient and did not allow another run through the rest of the game.  Christian Lopes went 3-5 with 2 doubles and a pair of RBIs.  Catcher Jorge Saez recorded 2 RBIs also on a single.  He would go 1-2 after walking 2 times in the game.  The D-Jay’s performed well and have now won 4 in a row.
