If you tuned in to Monday’s edition of Jays’ Nest, or found it on iTunes, you would have heard the big announcement for our next episode. Not only will we sit down with the guys from SodoMojo.com and RumBunter.com to discuss the new players the Blue Jays picked up from their respective teams, but we will be get the chance to sit down with 2015 Blue Jays CF, Dalton Pompey!
Last season, Kyle Franzoni gave us an interview with the prospect who had just begun his rapid ascent through the Blue Jays system. Since then, it has been nothing short of a whirlwind journey for the 22 year old from Mississauga, Ontario. In 2014, he went off! Over 3 levels in the minor leagues, he slashed .317/.392/.469 and picked up 43 stolen bases along the way while only being caught 7 times.
His call up in September call up saw him in just 17 games, but it served to catch the attention of Blue Jays fans. It was nights like his ‘coming out party’ below upon which fans were able to hang their dreams of what could be.
Right now, Pompey is one of the more exciting prospects in Major League Baseball:
Overall, MLB has him ranked #43 in their Top 100 prospects and #7 among outfielders. The Blue Jays, though? They feel that he is ready to compete, and possibly win the starting CF job in 2015.
Betsided
Where he starts the season and where he hits in the order have been subject of debate. Many feel he deserves the starting role, but others are skeptical of his limited experience. Those who are ready to give him the starting CF job are also split on
where he should hit in the lineup
. It might be too risky to have him hit near the top of the order given his lack of big league level success, even though he’s hit at or near the top of the order all the way through the minors.
All of this will be the subject of our discussion with Pompey as we hangout and chat on Sunday, Feb 8 at 2pm ET.
We’ve got a great list of questions designed to really allow fans to get to know the budding star. We’ll ask him about his progress through the minors. We’ll ask him about the teammates he played with, who really stands out as having a chance to possibly follow in his footsteps, his approach to hitting, his off season and so much more!
Be sure to tune in LIVE where you can also submit some questions. As well, we’ll be taking your questions all week via Twitter @JaysJournal.
