R.A. Dickey (4-7, 5.18 ERA) vs. Barry Zito (4-3, 3.88 ERA)

More afternoon baseball today with a 3:45 PM start time from AT&T Park in San Francisco. Finally a game that won’t finish tomorrow for us east coasters!

If you are stuck at work, make sure to check out the Jays Journal Guide to Watching Afternoon Baseball at Work.

A buddy of mine made a bet earlier this year with somebody he works with. The guy thought that Zito would have a lower ERA than Dickey in 2013. My buddy more than happily took the bet. I would have too, Zito has been terrible in recent years and Dickey was coming off a Cy Young winning season.

Right now, I’m sure he’s more than a bit nervous.

Who would have thought Zito would have an ERA under 4 this far into the season and Dickey would still be over 5? Sure Dickey is pitching in the AL East and Zito in the junior varsity NL West but really?

I am officially confused by the 2013 baseball season.

Melky Cabrera has been all the news lately. My opinion – Melky has served his time why continue to harass him? He’s already lost millions in free agency. One word of advice for the Melk Man – please no websites. And it might be a good idea to stay off the internet in general the next couple of months…

Edwin Encarnacion has been tearing the cover off the ball once and is opening the who is better debate (in 2013) again. In case you missed it earlier, you can still vote here.

According to ESPN, the Giants are 14-0 in Barry Zito home starts since August 2, 2012. That is actually unbelievable…
