The 2026 MLB Trade Deadline is starting to get closer, as it is now less than two months away. With this, trade activity around the league will soon be picking up, and the Toronto Blue Jays should be among the teams involved.
Injury trouble has resulted in the Blue Jays having an underwhelming start to the 2026 season. As of Jun. 11, the Blue Jays sit in third place in the American League East with a 33-36 record, are are close to the final wild card spot in the American League.
However, the Blue Jays certainly can't get comfortable, as the wild card race is very tight. The Texas Rangers, the Athletics, the Baltimore Orioles the Houston Astros, and the Minnesota Twins are all within striking distance as well creating an over flowing log jam.
Due to how this season has gone for the Blue Jays, they should be looking to make some serious additions to their roster between now and the deadline. If they hope to go on another real run this postseason, they will need to add some more star power.
When looking at potential dream trade targets for the Blue Jays, Tarik Skubal and Yordan Alvarez stand out in a major way. Both of these players would be amazing pickups for the Blue Jays as they look to win the World Series this time around after last postseason's heartbreaking finish.
Why the Blue Jays need to go all-in on Skubal and Alvarez

The Blue Jays are in need of an ace-level pitcher and that means Skubal is exactly the kind of pitcher that they should target at the deadline. With the Detroit Tigers having a 28-40 record (On Jun. 11) and Skubal being a pending free agent, there is a real chance that he will be moved by the deadline.
If the Blue Jays landed the 29-year-old Skubal, they would be bringing in a superstar pitcher who is coming off back-to-back Cy Young Awards. However, it is also important to note that Skubal is working his way back from elbow surgery. While this is the case, he is making progress with his recovery, as he just pitched five scoreless innings in his first rehab start with High-A West Michigan.
As for Alvarez, he would give the Blue Jays another much-needed star power hitter in their lineup. There is no question that the Blue Jays could use more pop in their lineup, so Alvarez is exactly the kind of high-impact slugger that they should kick tires on leading up to the deadline.
Alvarez is in the middle of a monster season with the Houston Astros. In 68 games so far this campaign, he has 22 home runs, 48 RBI, and a .317 batting average. These are very impressive numbers from the three-time All-Star, and there is no question that he would make the Blue Jays an even more significant threat if acquired.
There is no question that both players would be massive additions to Toronto's roster. And while these may be the kind of trade targets that only feel like a dream right now, the Blue Jays front office has to at least entertain the idea of striking a deal for Skubal and/or Alvarez this season.
