Jays Journal takes its daily look into the Toronto Blue Jays Minor League system. All-Star Breaks and a lack of offense just could not get the job done for the Single-A affiliates.

Buffalo Bisons
All-Star break

The Bisons have gotten off to a rough start to the month of July and finished with a tough loss on Sunday to the Pawtucket Red Sox.  They limped into the All-Star break with a 38-52 record and are 2-8 over their last 10.  They will look to turn things around as the season resumes on Thursday against the Railriders at home at Coca-Cola field.

Jason Leblebijian will be enjoying the All-Star game on Wednesday.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats
All-Star break

Just as the Fisher Cats started to show signs of life they get slammed to finish the first half.  They went 2-8 in their last 10 games and are currently on a 4 game losing streak.  They will pick up the second part of the season on Thursday.

Regardless of the rough first half of the season, the Fisher Cats will be sending 5 players to the Eastern League All-Star game.

Dunedin Blue Jays at Clearwater Threshers (Phillies)
1-3 Loss

An amazing start from Conor Fisk goes to waste as the D-Jays struggle to find their offense.  Fisk allowed just 2 hits over 7 innings of work.  He also allowed only one walk and struck out a season-high 9 strikeouts.  The outing was one of his best of the season and showed exactly what Fisk is capable when he locates and executes his pitches.  He threw 61 of his 85 pitches for strikes as he marched through the Threshers lineup and held them scoreless.  Adonys Cardona would allow 3 runs in the 8th inning to put the Threshers ahead for the win.

On offense, Cavan Biggio drove in the only run as he scored Connor Panas on a sac fly.  The D-Jays were able to get just 5 hits during the game and managed 4 walks as well.  They went 0-6 during the game with runners in scoring position and in turn, lost the game due to that production.  Max Pentecost hit a double and has now hit safely in the past 3 games.

MVDJ – Conor Fisk 7 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 9 K’s

Lansing Lugnuts at Fort Wayne Tin Caps (Padres)
4-13 Loss

The Lugnut dug an early hole in this one as their pitching continues to struggle.  The Tin Caps jumped on starter Andy Ravel for 5 runs in the first 2 runs.  Ravel would battle through 6 innings and eventually be charged a total of 6 earned runs.  He allowed 8 hits but walked just 1 batter.  The main damage came off of a pair of home runs by the Tin Caps that accounted for 3 of the 6 earned runs.  Ravel did strike out 6 batters during the outing.  Things continued to get worse as Andrew Deramo and Denis Diaz let the train roll off the tracks.  The pair would allow 7 earned runs over the following 2 innings.

The bottom of the order came through for the Lugnuts on Monday as the 6-8 hitters drove in all 4 runs.  Yeltsin Gudino went 3-3 with a double and 2 RBIs.  The Lugnuts were able to have just 6 hits during this one but went 3-7 with runners in scoring position.  The new look offense still is finding ways to score runs but the team needs to find a way to minimize the damage on the defensive side of the ball.

MVL – Yeltsin Gudino 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI
