On the heels of celebrating their American League East division championship, the Toronto Blue Jays now await the winner of the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox Wild Card Series. As Tuesday kicks off that AL East showdown, one team has decided to make things complicated should they advance to their next division showdown in the American League Divisional Series.

Yankees take ridiculous step to stop Blue Jays fans from crashing potential ALDS games

According to CBC's Thomas Daigle, the Yankees have banned Canadians from purchasing tickets for games three and four (if necessary). Upon logging into Ticketmaster, their policy states the following:

"Yankee Stadium is located in Bronx, New York. Sales to this event will be restricted to residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

Residency will be based on credit card billing address. Orders by residents outside New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania will be canceled without notice and refunds given."

Unfortunately, the policy is also in effect for the Wild Card series, meaning this affects Red Sox fans, who, for now, can only see their team in New York, as all games of the best-of-three series must take place there.

Diagle stated in his article that a Yankees representative reached out to CBC News, making it clear that the reason for the ticket block is to combat ticket scalping. A Red Sox representative also reached out to CBC news, saying that it won't be the case for Blue Jays fans should they be the ones to face the number one seed in the ALDS.

This isn't the first time a policy like this has affected the Toronto market. The NHL's Maple Leafs were barred from buying tickets to see them in Florida to take on the Panthers in the second round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Ironically, if Red Sox or Blue Jays fans want to see their teams at Yankee Stadium, you're still able to purchase tickets through third-party sellers like SeatGeek or StubHub. Which means, if you want to travel and enter enemy territory, you'll still be able to. Just don't tell Ticketmaster or the New York Yankees.
