Yankees fans clinging to new addition's one start vs. Blue Jays is beyond sad

These Blue Jays aren't the same ones Weathers faced before.

The New York Yankees have finally done...something. That something was sending the Miami Marlins four prospects for left handed pitcher Ryan Weathers. The 26-year-old southpaw will join a rotation that includes Max Fried, Carlos Rodon, Gerrit Cole and Cam Schlittler.

And while Weathers could develop into a reliable piece of their rotation, some fans are overly excited by dreaming on his future success against the AL East based off his one start against the Blue Jays from September of 2024. Which is an incredibly sad comparison to make for said Yankees fans.

The twitter account Everything Yankees posted a video of Weathers' start in which he carved up the Blue Jays lineup. To his credit he went 6.1 innings with six strikeouts. He allowed one run on three hits and two walks. In the video below you can see he had everything working and made the Blue Jays' hitters look foolish on some of his pitches.

However, if you take a closer look at those hitters you might not even recognize some of the names. That's because the Blue Jays at the end of the 2024 season were basically a glorified version of the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. 11 Blue Jays got into the game that day and eight of those players had spent time in the minors that season.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. led things off as the DH and went 0-for-2 with two walks. The rest of the lineup consisted of injury replacements, backups, and call up players. Jonatan Clase started in centre field. Spencer Horwitz was at first base. Davis Schneider, who was having a really down year hitting .191 with an OPS of .625 was placying second. You've got names in there such as Luis De Los Santos and Steward Berroa.

As long as the Blue Jays stay healthy and barring them completely falling off the tracks, the Blue Jays will not be fielding a lineup that looks like this when they play the Yankees in 2026. We can understand the elation from Yankees fans for the team finally making a move this season. We also think Weathers is a good pick up, even if they did give up four Top 30 Baseball America ranked prospects to get him.

Weathers was 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA in eight starts last year and missed time due to various injuries, the second straight season that was cut short because he was on the IL. When healthy, he seems to have plenty of upside, but for the fans to circle one game from two years ago as a sign as to why this pitcher might dominate the Blue Jays is a little farfetched.
