With Alejandro Kirk hitting the IL the Blue Jays should have considered this reunion

Alejandro Kirk is on the injured list with a concussion and losing him hurts this lineup a ton. Tyler Heineman has held his own this season, but he still does not have over 100 at bats, so it's hard to see it sticking in a near everyday job. Also, Ali Sanchez is not very strong either offensively, so making a trade for catcher makes a lot of sense for the Blue Jays.

Last offseason, Toronto saw Danny Jansen sign with their rival Tampa Bay. The Rays are slowly falling out of the race, and decided to send Jansen to the Milwaukee Brewers. Jansen was a fan favourite in Toronto during his time with the Blue Jays and a reunion here would have made sense.

Blue Jays should reunite with Danny Jansen at the MLB Trade Deadline if Alejandro Kirk's concussion is very serious.

On the season, Jansen has generated a .703 OPS from his 11 home runs and a strong 12.7% walk rate. Although his strikeout rate is uncharacteristically high at 26.3%, his chase rate is among the best in baseball at 19.7%. His defense is not great, which does hurt, yet he is a well rounded catcher worth a 0.7 fWAR and knows this pitching staff well. Adding a familiar face that has seen the playoffs with some of these young guys could have been very valuable.

Concussions can really be dangerous and Kirk should not be rushed back. Catchers are very prone to this injury and if he comes back too soon and re-hurts himself, he could not only be out on the baseball field, but also negatively impact him in life. Any brain related injury need to be treated seriously.

It would not have cost too much either to bring Jansen back. Toronto would have only been exchanging a lower ranked prospect such as Adrian Pinto or Sam Shaw. A rental with average hitting numbers and below average defense isn't going to net a very big haul anyways.

Unfortunately the Blue Jays missed out on what could have been an easy upgrade to get their deadline work started, but now it appears as if the shopping list could be getting a lttle longer.
