Heading into the 2025 MLB season, not everyone was giving the Toronto Blue Jays the benefit of the doubt that they could be in playoff contention by the time August rolled around. However, the Blue Jays have silenced those doubters this season by not only competing for the top spot in the AL East, but also the top spot in the American League.

Through Aug. 19, the Blue Jays have a 73-53 record, which is the second best record in the American League behind the Detroit Tigers, and they remain five games ahead in the AL East. They haven't topped the division since 2015, and while winning it again in 2025 would certainly be history making, they also have a chance to set re-write some franchise history as well.

Blue Jays need 13 wins at home to make franchise history

The Blue Jays have 19 games at home to close out the season. According to Josh Goldberg, the Blue Jays need to go 13-6 in their final 19 games at home to break the franchise record for home wins in a single season.

In 1985, the Blue Jays set the record for best home winning percentage with a .675 mark. That 1985 season was the first year the Blue Jays ever made the postseason when they fell to the Kansas City Royals in the ALCS in seven games. The Blue Jays' 42 home wins in 2025 is tied for the most in the MLB with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The home schedule is tough, but the Blue Jays have a shot at making franchise history based on the remaining home schedule:
8/25-8/27 vs Minnesota Twins
8/29-8/31 vs Milwaukee Brewers
9/9-9/11 vs Houston Astros
9/12-9/14 vs Baltimore Orioles
9/23-9/25 vs Boston Red Sox
9/26-9/28 vs Tampa Bay Rays

The Twins, Orioles and Rays are all out of the postseason bracket as of now and that is a part of the schedule where Toronto should take full advantage and rack up those wins at home. However, the Brewers, Astros and Red Sox are all in a postseason position, and they will likely be playing meaningful games against these teams when they come to town.

Toronto will remain on the road until Aug. 25 as they finish their series in Pittsburgh, then head to the 305 for a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. The Blue Jays will then begin their march towards some home history by opening that three game set against the Minnesota Twins.
