The Toronto Blue Jays' offseason is finally starting to take a positive shape after agreeing to terms with free agent outfielder Anthony Santander, and many believe that they're looking to add even more this offseason.
One route to consider is San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar. Sportsnet columnist Shi Davidi labeled the versatile outfielder as player that would make sense for the Blue Jays' offensive needs.
Less than 24 hours later, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand made it clear that Profar was more than just an idea for the Jays, noting that Toronto had checked in on him, in addition to Pete Alonso, in their ongoing search for offensive splashes.
Former Padres OF Jurickson Profar could be a nice fit for the Blue Jays
Profar is coming off his best season of his career. The switch hitter posted a 4.3 fWAR, which has drawn the interest from other contenders, including the New York Mets. It's assumed that Profar is seeking a three-year deal, and with Santander being locked up for multiple years, it would not be a bad idea to lock a handful of players up for this window.
Profar's only All-Star nod came last season with the Padres, a year in which he also took home a Silver Slugger Award. Profar belted 24 home runs and racked up 29 doubles while producing an .839 OPS and 134 OPS+.
Profar is a versatile defender, and while he lined up in left field for the Padres in 2024, the 31-year-old has played everywhere on both the infield and outfield during his 11-year major league career. However, his defensive numbers were not good last season with -8 defensive runs saved (DRS) and - outs above average (OAA).
Profar definitely makes a lot of sense for the Blue Jays, but at the moment, there's nothing on the table. There are still a large number of free agents still available, and after landing Santander, it will be exciting to see if and how Toronto continues to add to their roster this offseason.
