After missing out on the 2024 MLB Postseason, the Toronto Blue Jays are bouncing back in a big way and are in contention to not only make the playoffs, but also capture their first division title in a decade. It seems as if all of Canada is heavily invested in the Blue Jays' push for the postseason and a well known tourism attraction is celebrating in a unique way.

Toronto Zoo shows love for Blue Jays

The Toronto Zoo is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Canada with 1.3 million tourists visit in 2023. Now, the zoo is showing some love to the Blue Jays to rally and get behind the team. Two Scottish Highland cows were named after the team at the Toronto Zoo with "Blue" and "Jay" being the names. It's clear that even in a unique way, Canada is behind their only MLB team in the country. The zoo said the cows’ names are in recognition of the Blue Jays’ winning season and to show support for their probable postseason run.

According to Toronto Zoo CEO Dolf DeJong, Blue and Jay are half brothers that have been at the zoo for over a month. During the unveiling of their names, the zoo had two Blue Jays jerseys with the cows’ names and the number 25.

"Conservation is a team sport," says DeJong, "We need more players and now are hoping that naming these two animals after our beloved Blue Jays provides us with another way to get the community excited about two of our city’s great passions – baseball and conservation."

Blue Jays fans may even get a chance to get up close to Blue and Jay in the future. The Zoo posted on their Facebook page, "One of our areas of focus is ensuring we are a place of belonging. In the last few years, your Toronto Zoo has provided access to many Jays Care Foundation campers, creating zoo memories that will last a lifetime as part of their camp experience."

"This important work with Jays Care Foundation, and our organizations shared commitment to serving kids in our community, is all a part of being critical community gathering places for all," The Toronto Zoo continued. "Blue and Jay are the newest members of our Outreach & Discovery team, and once fully acclimated, may participate in casual encounters as part of our ambassador animal walking programming."
