Toronto radio analyst makes fearless playoff prediction about potential Blue Jays-Yankees matchup

While the Toronto Blue Jays were mostly sellers at the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline, they have gotten themselves back into the playoff conversation. The Blue Jays have a 13-10 record since the trade deadline and are 3.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the final wild card spot in the American League (going into Friday night). With this, the possibility of Toronto sneaking into the playoffs this year certainly cannot be ruled out.

If the Blue Jays made it to the playoffs, one team who they would have the potential of facing is the New York Yankees. The Yankees are currently at the top of the AL wild card standings with a 75-58 record, but the Boston Red Sox are right behind them at 73-60.

During a recent episode of Sportsnet 590 The FAN's Blair & Barker, Kevin Barker boldly expressed why he would be ecstatic if the Blue Jays ended up facing the Yankees in the playoffs this year. In fact, he even called it a "guaranteed win" for Toronto if it happened.

"I'll say this: I would love to face the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs. I would love to face them," Barker said. "The Jays are frustrated. The Yankees are just dumb. They play dumb baseball. They play dumb baseball. They really do. There is no way that team will win any playoffs."

Barker added, "Give me that any day. Absolutely, they'd win that series. Guaranteed playoff win. 140%. Jays and Yankees, book the next round. Book the hotel rooms for the next round."

With the Yankees currently 11 games ahead of the Blue Jays in the AL East standings, there is no question that this is a bold take. This would especially be so if the Yankees end up being fully healthy once the playoffs are here.

Yet, at the same time, the Blue Jays made it to the World Series just last year. Anything can happen in the playoffs, so it would certainly be entertaining to see Toronto end up facing New York this year.

Blue Jays have had mixed results against the Yankees this season

The Blue Jays have had four series against the Yankees this year, and they have had mixed results in the head-to-head matchups. At this point in the season, the Blue Jays have a 6-7 record against New York.

The Blue Jays split their first four-game series against the Yankees back in May. The Blue Jays then lost two out of three games in their second series against New York in June. Toronto then won two out of three games against New York from Aug. 14 to Aug. 16 before losing their most recent series against New York from Aug. 21 to Aug. 23.

Overall, neither team has really dominated the other this season, so it would be interesting to see them face each other in the playoffs. Yet, for this to have any chance of occurring, the Blue Jays are going to need to start winning in bunches and climb up the standings.
