Another day, another awards snub. That's how the offseason has gone so far for the Toronto Blue Jays. First Ernie Clement and Alejandro Kirk were robbed of the catcher gold glove awards. And the Blue Jays as a team should have taken home that trophy as well. Now John Schneider was robbed of Manager of the Year as it was revealed he lost to Stephen Vogt of the Cleveland Guardians.

Vogt becomes just the second American League manager ever to win the award in back-to-back years. Even though the Guardians finished four wins worse than they did a year ago. To add salt to the wound, Schneider just missed out on the award, and it's in part, thanks to a local writer that he didn't receive more votes.

The voting process includes a 30 ballot submission with two writers from each city of an American League team casting their vote. It was a bit of a flawed process this year as two writers who cover the San Francisco Giants were invited to take part, seeing as MLB clearly didn't trust anyone covering the homeless Athletics to submit their vote. There was also a writer from Boston who voted for Alex Cora who wasn't even a finalist for the award.

But what really is grinding the gears of Blue Jays fans is that only one team in the AL East submitted unanimous votes for Schneider, and it wasn't even the Blue Jays. Both of the writers who cover the Orioles voted for Schneider, while it's no surprise the Boston and New York writers wouldn't cast any votes the Blue Jays way. The Rays followed suit with both of their writers selecting Vogt. But even the Blue Jays writers couldn't get a consensus pick.

Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun rightfully voted for Schneider, but Rosie DiManno of the Toronto Star, did not. It's hard to justify giving anyone but Schneider a first place vote. He took a team that missed the playoffs and finished dead last in the American League in 2024 to not only first place in the AL East, but first place in the entire American League. Vogt not only was at the helm of a team that was worse in 2025, but he also was the leader of a locker room that is now embroiled in a gambling scandal.

It's embarrassing to see a team do so well in one calendar year only to have the home town writers try to create some controversy and knock them down a peg. And look, it worked, controversy creates cash and everybody and their grandmothers are talking about the "Toronto writer that snubbed Toronto's manager."

Vogt received 17 first place votes while Schneider received 10. The Mariners Dan Wilson picked up two with both of the Chicago based writers voting for him, and yes, Cora got one. It's just the latest it's one been an offseason of award snubs for the Blue Jays.
