There are few pitchers more synonymous with modern pitching dominance than Jacob deGrom. deGrom was arguably the best pitcher in the MLB For most of the late 2010s and the early 2020s when he was with the Mets.
He recorded back-to-back Cy Young wins in 2018 and '19, and had seemingly pulled off everything that could be done on the mound.
Well, almost everything.
After recording at least one strikeout in the first 228 games of his MLB career, deGrom went strikeout less on Monday against the Blue Jays' lineup.
That's right. The Blue Jays' work-in-progress lineup became the first team in MLB history to not strike out against deGrom. And it came in a Blue Jays win, which was a nice little bonus.

All of this comes with the cavaet that deGrom isn't the same pitcher that he was while he was with the Mets.
He struggled with a Bevy of arm injuries in his final years with the Mets. He only threw 224 1/3 innings from 2020 to '22... but also had a 2.02 ERA.
He signed a five-year, $158 million deal with the Rangers ahead of the 2023 season, but only managed to make six starts in that season before going under the knife for Tommy John surgery.
He returned at the end of last season and allowed two earned runs over 10 2/3 innings in three starts, which set up this season.
While deGrom has a 2.42 ERA across his 11 starts this year, he's also only averaging 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings, which is the lowest number of his career by a large margin.
deGrom recorded a15 strikeout game in 2021 and has 61 career double-digit strikeout games, but the 36-year-old is at a different stage of his career than he was with the Mets. Which is saying something because his average fastball velocity is still 97.1 miles per hour, which is in the 90th percentile.
He's also in the 90th percentile in whiff rate, so he still has some swing and miss stuff in his game.
But there wasn't a ton of swing and miss in his start against the Blue Jays, as he only generated three whiffs.
The Blue Jays also entered Monday with the lowest amount of strikeouts in the American League (380), so it's not incredibly surprising that they didn't strike out once against deGrom.
They were also playing in front from the beginning, as Daulton Varsho staked the Blue Jays to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run.

Their second run came in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from Alejandro Kirk.
deGrom ended up going 5 1/3 innings but still took the loss. On the other side, Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman allowed just one run over eight innings of work. He also added on six strikeouts for good measure.
The Blue Jays are still working through some kinks in their lineup, but there's no denying that their performance against deGrom on Monday was a great sign.
