Don't look now, but the Blue Jays are still undefeated in 2025.

After beating two division rivals to open their Spring Training slate, the Blue Jays continue their spring slate Tuesday when they take on the St. Louis Cardinals at TD Ballpark. After leaning heavily on prospects in their lineup on Sunday, the Blue Jays are mixing it up a bit today. They were supposed to take on the Tigers yesterday, but the game was cancelled due to rain.

First pitch against St. Louis is set for 1:07 p.m. from TD Ballpark in Dunein, Florida. The game will be available to stream on Sportsnet.

Probable starting pitchers

Max Scherzer vs. Quinn Mathews

The Blue Jays will send Max Scherzer to the mound for the first time this season after he signed a one-year, $15.5 million deal with the Jays in the offseason. The 40-year-old was only able to make nine starts last year due to injuries (3.95 ERA) but seems to be healthy so far through camp. He'll likely slot into the No. 2 or 3 spot in the rotation. Bowden Francis will pitch behind Scherzer after his start was scratched yesterday due to the cancellation.

On the other side is Mathews, who MLB Pipeline has as the Cardinals' No. 3 prospect and No. 77 prospect in baseball. He pitched at four levels last year (becoming just the second pitcher in St. Louis history to do so) and had 202 strikeouts in 143 1/3 innings. He struggled a bit once he got to Triple-A, as he posted a 6.48 ERA in four starts at the level.

Toronto Blue Jays starting lineup, February 25

  • 1. SS Bo Bichette
  • 2. 2B Andrés Giménez
  • 3. DH Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
  • 4. C Alejandro Kirk
  • 5. 1B Will Wagner
  • 6. 3B Ernie Clement
  • 7. CF Joey Loperfido
  • 8. LF Davis Schneider
  • 9. RF Nathan Lukes

St. Lous Cardinals starting lineup, February 25

  • 1. LF Victor Scott II
  • 2. 1B Alec Burleson
  • 3. CF Lars Nootbaar
  • 4. 2B Nolan Gorman
  • 5. C Pedro Pagés
  • 6. 3B Thomas Saggese
  • 7. DH JJ Wetherholt
  • 8. SS José Fermín
  • 9. RF Nathan Church

The top of the lineup looks like the lineup the Blue Jays could roll out on Opening Day, so it'll be interesting to see if Bichette, Giménez, Guerrero and Kirk are able to get anything going against a left-hander on the mound. Wagner at first base is an interesting wrinkle too, considering he's an option to be the first baseman of the future.

While Lukes, Loperfido and Schneider get the starts in the outfield, manager John Schneider has rotated through outfielders in every game, so every guy in the running for a spot should get a shot today.
