The Toronto Blue Jays put together their most-complete performance of the year yesterday in a 14-0 win over the San Diego Padres that put them back at the .500 mark (24-24).
They'll now go for the series win on Thursday.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. The game will be available to stream on Sportsnet.
Toronto Blue Jays probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. San Diego Padres, May 22
Probable starting pitchers
Bowden Francis (2-6, 5.63 ERA, 36 K) vs. Stephen Kolek (2-1, 2.33 ERA, 15 K)
Francis takes the mound Thursday in the midst of the worst stretch of his career since he rejoined the team in the second half of last season. He's allowed at least three runs in each of his last four starts, and has only gone more than 4 2/3 innings in one of those starts.
He allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Tigers his last time out, and has given up an MLB-leading 14 home runs so far this year.
He's in the sixth percentile in expected batting average and expected ERA and is also in the fifth percentile in hard-hit rate. Batters are hitting .311 against his split-finger, .462 against his curveball and .364 against his slider.
He's thrown two scoreless innings in his career against the Padres, and Jake Cronenworth is the only Padre to record a hit against him in his career.
He'll be going against Kolek, who has been one of the best stories in baseball through the first two months of the season. He had a 5.21 ERA in 46 2/3 innings out of the bullpen last season, but now has only allowed five earned runs through 19 1/3 innings this year.
He put himself on the map with a shutout against the Rockies on May 10 (making him the first pitcher to throw a shutout at Coors Field since Clayton Kershaw), but he allowed five runs to the Padres in a loss his last time out.
He keeps the ball on the ground (93rd percentile in ground-ball rate) but doesn't miss bats (fifth percentile in whiff rate). Bo Bichette is the only Blue Jays to record a base hit off him in their career.

There's no Anthony Santander in the lineup today, which shouldn't come as a surprise since he left yesterday's game due to his hip injury. He's already said that his hip isn't 100%, which is why he highlighted some players who will need to step up if Santander's out of the lineup.
Only one of those players is in the lineup today in the form of Lukes. He's been swinging a hot bat as of a late, and seeing him in right field (Santander's normal spot), is a a great sign.
This lineup is also a bit unqiue due to the number of off days. Both George Springer and Alejandro Kirk are out of the lineup, which is why we have an outfield of Lukes, Clase and Straw and Heineman behind the plate. Varsho gets a quasi-day off as designted hitter.
