After a 2-1 weekend, the Blue Jays are back in action today with a spring training matchup against the Houston Astros. There’s less than three weeks until Opening Day, so it seems like the focuses at Blue Jays’ camp are starting to tighten a little bit. As such, expect to see the team’s projected starters play for a bit longer this week than they had at the start of spring training.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. from TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida. The game will be broadcast on Sportsnet in Toronto and on MLB Network (out-of-market only).
Probable starting pitchers
Kevin Gausman (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 K) vs. Colton Gordon (0-1, 5.40 ERA, 4 K)
Gausman’s back on the mound after making his spring debut last week.
He went 1 2/3 innings against the Pirates with a fastball that averaged 94.9 miles per hour, and seems to be finding his rhythm as he enters the last season of his contract with Toronto. He’s one of the numerous veterans in Toronto’s starting rotation, and it doesn’t seem like hyperbole to say that Toronto will go as Gausman goes.
He’ll be going against Gordon, who just ranked as the Astros’ No. 16 prospect per MLB Pipeline. He has a fastball that sits around 91 miles per hour, but was added to the Astros’ 40-man roster in the offseason to avoid getting exposed to the Rule 5 Draft, which shows that Houston expects him to make an MLB impact at some point this year.
He went 8-2 with a 3.94 ERA in 123 1/3 innings in Triple-A last year, and has allowed two earned runs in 3 1/3 innings in two spring training starts this year.
An eighth-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, Gordon will now get a chance to showcase his arsenal against the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays are once again going with Bichette at the top of the lineup. He’s impressed so far this spring and looks poised to bounce-back after a subpar showing in 2024. Bichette’s hit .346 this spring in a team-high 26 at-bats, and has been incredibly aggressive in his at-bats. Expect that to continue today against Gordon.
After Bichette, the top of the Blue Jays’ lineup resembles the one that Toronto could trot out on Opening Day. Guerrero’s been crushing the ball this spring (what else is new) and Santander’s beginning to find his groove after a late start to spring.
Wagner’s struggled so far this spring (.222) but he’s a top spot for the designated hitter spot, while Kirk (.350) and Clement (.435) are having great springs. We’ll see if they can continue that tonight against Houston.
