The Toronto Blue Jays continue their quest toward Opening Day on Thursday when they travel to Sarasota, Florida to take on the division-rival Baltimore Orioles in a spring training tilt.

The Blue Jays suffered their first defeat of the spring yesterday against the Phillies, but continue to get good results out of their group of starters in the beginning of games.

First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota. The game won't be available to stream, but you can follow the action pitch-by-pitch on MLB Gameday.

Probable starting pitchers

Easton Lucas (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 3 K) vs. Grayson Rodriguez

Lucas will be making his second start of the spring, making him the first Blue Jays spring training starter to get a second "turn" in the rotation. He threw two scoreless innings against the Yankees on Saturday, and is in his first spring with the Blue Jays after being acquired mid-season last year.

He threw 12 fastballs and 10 cutters in Saturday along with mixing in two changeups and two sliders, He generated three whiffs, all with his fastball.

Rodriguez will be making his spring debut after having a 3.86 ERA in 116 2/3 innings for the Orioles last season. The one-time top prospect has a career 4.11 ERA in 238 2/3 innings of work in his career, and will be entering his third MLB season. He's no stranger to the Blue Jays, as the 29 1/3 innings he's worked against Toronto are the most he's had against any one team. He has a 3.86 ERA in those innings and has allowed four home runs.

Toronto Blue Jays starting lineup, February 27

  • 1. 1B Will Wagner
  • 2. DH Bo Bichette
  • 3. 3B Addison Barger
  • 4. LF Davis Schneider
  • 5. RF Nathan Lukes
  • 6. SS Leo Jiménez
  • 7. 2B Orelvis Martinez
  • 8. CF Myles Straw
  • 9. C Matt Whatley

Baltimore Orioles starting lineup, February 27

  • 1. SS Gunnar Henderson
  • 2. C Adley Rutschman
  • 3. CF Cedric Mullins
  • 4. LF Tyler O'Neill
  • 5. 1B Ryan O'Hearn
  • 6. DH Ryan Mountcastle
  • 7. RF Ramon Laureano
  • 8. 2B Ramón Urías
  • 9. 2B Nick Gordon

It's good to see Barger back in the lineup after he missed a couple days due to a ball hitting his hand. He continues to see a lot of work at first base this spring, which could help him crack the Opening Day roster. He'd be a huge benefit off the bench if he could hand first and third.

Bichette continues to lead the charge this spring, as his eight at-bats this spring are second-most on the team behind Steward Berroa. He's 3-for-8 in those at-bats with two doubles, and has been aggressive in almost every one. It seems he's setting the tone this spring.

Straw will be making his second straight start in center, while Schneider and Lukes man the corners this time. Anthony Santander has yet to make his spring debut but is supposed to make his debut Friday.
