Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes is arguably the best pitcher in all of baseball. After winning the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year award, Skenes recently won hist first Cy Young award in his career. Even though he's still under contract for several more seasons, the discussions about Skenes getting traded have been circulating.

If the Pirates were to trade Skenes, their fans would be livid that another talented player is once again on the move in Pittsburgh. However, the Pirates would get a heck of a return for Skenes if they had the right trading partner and there are rumors that trading partner could be lining up to be a divisional of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Skenes rumored to want to wear the Yankee pinstripes

NJ.com's Randy Miller recently reported that Skenes has dreams of playing for the New York Yankees. While talking to an anonymous teammate of Skenes, he mentioned how Skenes admitted that he wants to play for the Yankees.

"Trust me, he wants to play for the Yankees," the anonymous player said. "I've heard him say it multiple times." If Skenes does get traded to the Yankees, it would be scary for everyone in the AL East. The fact that the Yankees could have Skenes to add to what is already a really good rotation would make them clear favourites.

The Blue Jays and Yankees should be battling for the AL East Division for many years down the road but that battle could become heavily slanted if the Yankees landed Skenes. Both the Blue Jays and Yankees each had 94 wins in 2025, but the Blue Jays won the AL East division on the final day of the regular season, so the addition of Skenes would put even more pressure on the Blue Jays in their quest

The two teams met in the 2025 ALDS. The Blue Jays got the edge on the Yankees when they defeated the Yankees in four games. Had the Yankees had Skenes in the ALDS, it could've been a huge difference maker on the outcome of the series. He also wouldn't be the only former Pirates star pitcher in the rotation, joining Gerrit Cole who was traded by the Pirates to the Astros at the 2018 trade deadline, before joining the Yankees that offseason.

Time will tell whether or not Skenes will be traded by the Pirates, but the fact that one of Skenes' teammates says he wants to be a Yankee will add some drama to the rivalry between these two clubs.
