A day after starting the Spring Training slate off with a win over the Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays are putting out a lineup today for their game against the Red Sox that leans more toward the future and development of the franchise compared to winning a game that doesn't mean much.

First pitch against Boston is set for 1:05 p.m. from JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida. The game will be available on Sportsnet ONE on TV and on Sportsnet 590 The FAN on the radio.

Probable starting pitchers

Yariel Rodríguez vs. Garrett Crochet

Rodríguez will see his first action of the 2025 season in what could end up being an incredibly important year for the 27-year-old. While he's getting stretched out as a starter, Rodríguez will likely end up starting the year in the bullpen thanks to Toronto's acquisition of Max Scherzer.

That doesn't mean that Rodríguez can't make an impact in his diminished role, however. He's in the second year of a four-year contract and can't be sent down to the minors without his approval. He had a 4.47 ERA in 21 starts last eason.

He'll go against Garrett Crochet, who will be making his Red Sox debut after coming over in a trade with the White Sox in the offseason. Crochet is coming off a year where he a 3.58 ERA in 146 innings for the lowly White Sox, which led to him being flipped to Boston with two years of control left through arbitration.

The Red Sox gave up the farm for him (four solid prospects in Wikelman Gonzalez, Chase Meidroth, Braden Montgomery and Kyle Teel), so they're hoping he helps lead them to another era of success.

Toronto Blue Jays starting lineup, February 23

  • 1. SS Leo Jiménez
  • 2. 3B Addison Barger
  • 3. 2B Orelvis Martínez
  • 4. C Christian Bethancourt
  • 5. LF Alan Roden
  • 6. RF Steward Berroa
  • 7. CF Myles Straw
  • 8. DH RJ Schreck
  • 9. 1B Rainer Nunez

Boston Red Sox starting lineup, February 23

  • 1. LF Jarren Duran
  • 2. 3B Alex Bregman
  • 3. 1B Triston Casas
  • 4. SS Trevor Story
  • 5. DH Rob Refsnyder
  • 6. 2B David Hamilton
  • 7. CF Ceddanne Rafaela
  • 8. C Blake Sabol
  • 9. RF Nate Eaton

After opening spring with a lineup that resembled the one Toronto could go with on Opening Day, the Blue Jays are using a lineup today that only has four players on the 40-man roster (Jiménez, Barger, Martínez and Berroa), but that doesn't mean that there aren't quality players in there. Roden, a Non-Roster Invitee, is Ross Atkins' prospect to watch this spring, while Myles Straw (another NRI) once won a Gold Glove with Cleveland.

This will also be Toronto's first time to see Alex Bregman in a Red Sox jersey after he spurned the Blue Jays in free agency. He'll be playing third base for the first time this spring, and will be batting second in a lineup that features some of Boston's best hitters.
