The Toronto Blue Jays farm system has been very exciting to watch this season and their first rounder from 2024 is flying through the organization. Trey Yesavage was just promoted to Double-A after starting the season all the way down in Low-A.
His domination of minor league hitters so far is giving fans hope that he could reinforce this pitching staff as early as this season. Since his MLB debut is a very real possibility this year, the question stands, when might that happen?

Yesavage is likely to make his Double-A debut Thursday against the Phillies affiliate in Reading, about 30 minutes from his hometown in Pottstown. If he does well in about four or five starts, he will likely move up again to Triple-A. It shouldn't take much in that level to prove anything else, so Yesavage could very well make it to the big leagues by August.

Trey Yesavage could debut with the Blue Jays in 2025 with recent promotion.

There is definitely an opportunity for Toronto to make room for Yesavage when August or September rolls around. If they fail to acquire a big arm at the MLB Trade Deadline, he would be the best replacement for a struggling Bowden Francis. Eric Lauer has been solid, but it's hard to envision him staying consistent all year long. Newcomer Spencer Turnbull has yet to earn any trust in big situations down the stretch after an underwhelming stint in the minors.

Even though he is still a rookie, Yesavage has the stuff to be better than the guys listed, and could be a difference maker in clinching a playoff spot. Getting a young arm up that could be the ace in a year or two should be Toronto's priority this season, aside from making the postseason.

He has delivered an incredible 2.13 ERA with a 2.64 FIP and a 15.63 K/9 across 50.2 IP. If he can deliver these same numbers in Double-A, it should be very safe to assume that his debut could be imminent toward the end of the summer. There would be no reason to keep him down as he could very well help this team win. They are set to lose a few pitchers to free agency within the next two off-season's, so getting this foundational piece up in the big leagues could happen sooner rather than later.
