The Blue Jays may finally be getting Vladimir Guerrero Jr. going

Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

The All-Star break came at a great time for the Toronto Blue Jays. After losing two out of three to the San Diego Padres, the Blue Jays not only fell to 45-51, but now sit dead last in the American League East. A season of high expectations turned into desperation with a hint of panic.

Nobody may be more in the spotlight than franchise player Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who's having one of the worst seasons of his career. Prior to the Blue Jays' final road trip of the season before the All-Star break, Guerrero Jr. slashed .267/.348/.350 with an OPS of .698. In 82 games, he's only hit four home runs with 34 RBIs. This is also your reminder that Vladdy has yet to hit a home run at home this season.

However, July has shown signs of Vladdy that Blue Jays fans have missed. Because of that, it begs the question: Is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. returning to form?

Last week showed signs of second-half Vladdy

In just two weeks of baseball in July, Vladdy reminded fans what he's capable of and why he's worth $500 million. With a slugging percentage of .432 and an OPS of .773, Guerrero Jr. hit two home runs in 10 games with seven RBIs.

Per Fangraphs, his wRC+ is at 113 in July, which has been an upward trend compared to his other months. Late March and all of April saw his wRC+ at 157; it dropped to 79 in May and even further to 37 in June. Of course, the team will be on the edge of their seats to see if it will truly be the improvement they need. Consistency has been a concern for Guerrero Jr. all season. The month of July is so far showing it's there.

More importantly, clutch Vladdy is also making a comeback. His three-run blast in San Diego on July 11 helped tie the ballgame. Although the Blue Jays would go on to lose that game, the fact that the Vladdy fans needed in moments to give the Blue Jays a fighting chance showed up. He has 20 hits with runners in scoring position and 32 RBIs with a batting average of .299. But with only one home run to show for it, there needs to be more urgency to cash in more runs.

After being selected to play in the 2026 All-Star Game, Guerrero Jr. elected not to participate in the festivities, citing that he wanted to rest and help ease a lower back injury. And as history has shown, Vladdy breaks out in the second half. Should that be the case, then MLB needs to stay alert for the return of the Plakata.
