Ranking the next five deserving members of the Blue Jays "Hall of Excellence"

The next five members of the Blue Jays Hall of Excellence are harder to pick than you'd think.

The Toronto Blue Jays unveiled their "Hall of Excellence" this week, which will replace the Level of Excellence at Rogers Centre.

Now located on the 100-level of the stadium, the Hall of Excellence will recognize some of the organization's greatest figures in a team exhibit, instead of just having their names displayed in center field. In addition to that change, the Blue Jays announced that Buck Martinez will be the newest addition, joining the likes of: Jose Bautista, Paul Beeston, George Bell, Joe Carter, Tom Cheek, Carlos Delgado, Tony Fernandez, Cito Gaston, Pat Gillick, Roy Halladay and Dave Steib.

When it comes to Blue Jays history, all 12 of those names are well-deserved to be honoured, but it got us thinking about who else should join them. The Blue Jays mentioned that fans will vote on future inductees, so let's look at five (six) individuals who should join them.

Who should follow Buck Martinez into the "Hall of Excellence?"

No. 1: Josh Donaldson

"The Bringer of Rain" only played for the Blue Jays from 2015-2018, but what a run he had. In 2015, Donaldson won the AL MVP, becoming the second player in team history to win that award. Although they never made the World Series, he was a core piece, alongside Bautista during their ALCS runs and should be recognized for his incredible play.

No. 2: Vernon Wells

Based on longevity alone, Wells probably deserves to be honoured by the organization. He never played a playoff game in Toronto, but was a big bright spot in some lean years and a reason why fans went to games. The three-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glover finished eighth in MVP voting in 2003 and is still a fan favourite.

No. 3: Dan Shulman and Jerry Howarth

If Buck Martinez is going into the Hall of Excellence, his buddy Dan Shulman should join him as well as long time Blue Jays radio broadcaster Jerry Howarth. The 59-year-old Shulman had a run with the Blue Jays from 1995-2001 before re-joining the broadcast team in 2016, until present. Shulman is the best in the business and he should eventually be recognized alongside Martinez.

Meantime, Howarth joined the Blue Jays in 1981 to share play-by-play duties alongside the late, great, and already inducted, Tom Cheek. Tom and Jerry shared the airwaves until 2005, when Cheek had to step away due to health issues. Howarth remained the primary play-by-play voice until 2017, before announcing his retirement before the start of the 2018 season. He spent 36 years bringing the sounds of summer to Blue Jays across Canada and deserves his moment in the spotlight as well.

No. 4: Devon White

When it comes to World Series moments, Devon White's catch during Game 3 of the 1992 World Series is one of the biggest in team history, so that alone makes him deserving. White spent five seasons in Toronto and won five Gold Gloves during that time, making him one of the best outfielders in the 1990s. He never hit for power, so his time with the team was always underrated.

No. 5: Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

He may only be 27-years-old, but can Guerrero Jr. be put in the Hall of Excellence now? What more can be said about this man? He is the lifeblood of this franchise and helped guide this team to Game 7 of the World Series. Blue Jays fans are lucky enough to have another 14 years with Vladdy, but once it's said and done, it seems like he'll be honoured, almost immediately, and hopefully he'll have a few rings to show for it.
