The Toronto Blue Jays have not been quiet this offseason. They've added to their pitching bringing in both starters and relievers to bolster their chances ahead of 2026. However, they have yet to bring back anyone from the 2025 roster that has hit the free agent market - and it's unlikely more than one or two of those current free agents actually return.
There are six guys still looking for somewhere to play in 2026. Based on the current market, here is where we think they will end up.
Predicting where these 7 remaining Blue Jays free agents will end up before 2026
SS Bo Bichette
Bichette is the biggest name of the current crop of Blue Jays free agents and there's been a recent development in his market. Bichette has been telling teams that he is open to switching positions and playing second base full time. That bodes well for a return to Toronto as they are a better defensive team with Andrés Giménez at short. While it may be concerning that Bichette hasn't reached a deal yet with the Blue Jays, there is a lot riding on this contract and it seems like Bo and his agent are doing their due diligence in trying to gather the most information and seeing what's available for him.
Prediction: Blue Jays. They will find a way to get this done and keep Bo and Vladdy together long-term.
SP Chris Bassitt
Bassitt proved he was the ultimate team guy last season when he was labelled as one of the key cogs in the Blue Jays club house unity, and then also accepted a role in the bullpen in the playoffs. While it feels like there would be a spot for him in the Blue Jays bullpen, the soon to be 37-year-old could also be a prime candidate to fill out the back end of another teams rotation. Bassitt has thrown 150+ innings ever year since 2021 and has been worth 11.8 bWAR, with a 3.66 ERA with 846 strikeouts in 880.1 innings pitched.
Prediction: Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles have made some aggressive moves already this offseason and Bassitt could provide valuable leadership to a team that needs an innings eater in their rotation.
SP Max Scherzer
Scherzer will be 42-years-old next season, but says he still has some unfinished business, after getting so close to winning his third World Series. He didn't have a great regular season, giving up 19 home runs and 49 earned runs in 85 innings with a 1.294 WHIP and ERA+ of 82. However, he had a great run in the postseason and if he comes in to Spring Training fully healthy, there's bound to be a team who will take a flyer on the future hall of fame pitcher.
Prediction: San Francisco Giants. Their new manager Tony Vitello is Scherzer's long-time friend, stemming from Vitello's time as Scherzer's pitching coach at the University of Missouri. That, and the fact that the Giants could use another veteran on their staff make the stars align for Scherzer to head out west.
RP Seranthony Dominguez
A trade deadline pickup for the Blue Jays, Dominguez brought a 97 mph fastball that sat in the 94th percentile in the league. He had a great strikeout rate, with a 30.3% mark that was in the 91st percentile, but he also had a high walk rate, with his 13.8% mark ranked in the first percentile. Dominguez is a guy that you'll have to take the good with the bad because when he's on his game, there are few that make hitters look as foolish by flailing at fastballs as Dominguez does.
Prediction: Miami Marlins. After signing Pete Fairbanks to a one-year $13 million contract earlier this week, the Marlins could use some extra fire power out of their 'pen and Dominguez makes sense as a target.
1B Ty France
Another trade deadline pickup for the Blue Jays, France was brought in as insurance incase Guerrero got hurt long-term and to fill in as a pinch hitter / DH in favorable situations. France was fine in his 37 games with Toronto. He hit .277/.320/.372 but hit just one home run over that time. France also picked up the first Gold Glove award of his career after posting a .996 fielding percentage.
Prediction: Colorado Rockies. By FanGraphs WAR the Rockies are expected to have the worst production in the league from their first basemen with waiver claim Troy Johnston expected to be their every day guy. Surely, signing France and letting him compete for that role can't hurt a team that has been awful the last few seasons.
INF Isiah Kiner-Falefa
In his second stint with the Blue Jays, Kiner-Falefa was acquired via waiver claim and played in 19 games down the stretch for Toronto. It wasn't a very productive game by the numbers, slashing just .233/.258/.367, but he did have a few clutch hits within those contests. However, the Blue Jays will likely have a crowded bench as it is and Kiner-Falefa would likely benefit more from being an every day player - as he produced a 1.6 bWAR with the Pirates earlier in the year.
Prediction: Texas Rangers. Kiner-Falefa was originally drafted by the Rangers in 2013 and spent his first four big league seasons there. The Rangers, having already traded second baseman Marcus Semien this offseason, and could use a cost-effective veteran at that spot in 2026.
