Toronto Blue Jays probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Pittsburgh Pirates, May 7
Fresh off of an 8-2 victory, the Blue Jays have to be feeling good after taking two in a row from the first place Pirates. In Saturday's contest, Brandon Belt was the offensive hero, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two driven in. On the mound, José Berríos turned in an astounding performance, going 6.1 innings with two runs allowed and seven strikeouts.
Probable starting pitchers
- 31-year-old Yusei Kikuchi is set to make the seventh start of his 2023 campaign. The southpaw has looked sharp through the first 31 innings of his season, posting an ERA of 4.02 and an ERA+ of 107. His 5.44 FIP is a bit concerning, but that is inflated by some questionable play behind him on the field. For the majority of the current season, Kikuchi has looked like an entirely new pitcher from the one he was last year, which is a welcomed development for all.
- Opposing Kikuchi will be 23-year-old Roansy Contreras. The right-hander has been a bright spot for this Pirates squad since coming over in a trade, posting a 3.78 ERA and 111 ERA+ across 28 outings dating back to 2021. This year, he has a 4.09 ERA and 3.67 FIP in six outings and 33 innings.
