Toronto Blue Jays probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Pittsburgh Pirates, May 6
The Blue Jays are finally back in the win column! After what felt like a never-ending losing streak, the club managed a 4-0 shutout in Friday night's game against the Pirates, largely thanks to Chris Bassitt's electric start. The offensive powerhouses will face off again on Saturday with another Blue Jays pitcher who could use a strong start.
Probable starting pitchers
- Making the seventh start of his 2023 campaign will be right-hander José Berríos. The 28-year-old is coming off of an awful outing against the Red Sox in which he allowed five earned runs on 11 hits with two home runs surrendered as well. It's been a frustrating start to the year for Berríos as he's either been very good or very .... not so good. Perhaps he can follow up Bassitt's masterful start with one of his own.
- Opposite Berríos will be 25-year-old Johan Oviedo. The 6-foot-5 righty has gradually emerged as a reliable starter for the Pirates recently and is expected to be a key figure in their starting rotation. In six starts and 32 innings this year, he has a 4.78 ERA and 94 ERA+ but his 3.83 FIP suggests his numbers could be skewed by one poor start (he allowed seven runs on nine hits in just 2.1 innings last week).
