After a depressing four-game sweep at the hands of the Red Sox, the Toronto Blue Jays travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates at PNC Park for a three-game set. The Blue Jays sit at 18-14 to begin the year, which is nothing to write off, but the Pirates are one of the hottest teams in baseball and their 20-12 record is best in the NL Central.

Probable starting pitchers

  • 34-year-old Chris Bassitt is set to make the seventh start of his 2023 season. The righty has had his fair share of ups and downs so far, posting a 5.18 ERA and 83 ERA+ in 33 innings of work, but he's been a solid inning-eater for the Blue Jays and is coming off of a start in which he struck out seven against the Mariners.
  • Opposite Bassitt will be 43-year-old Rich Hill, whose body somehow still has not failed him after almost two decades in the big leagues. Hill was brought aboard by the Pirates on a cheap one-year deal with the anticipation being he'd eat innings on a rebuilding team. Instead, him and his 108 ERA+ have been a bright spot on this club through six outings and 32.1 innings.
