Entering this series against the Oakland Athletics, the Toronto Blue Jays were undoubtedly hoping to pull off a nice and easy three-game sweep against the cellar-dwelling club. While it has been far from "nice and easy", the Jays enter Wednesday with the chance to make it a sweep in Oakland and four straight victories. With every single game feeling like a "must win" contest, these are huge for the Jays.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu is set to make his seventh start of the year for the Blue Jays. Since returning from Tommy John surgery, he has been a massive asset in the Jays' rotation, posting a 3-1 record with a 2.48 ERA and 174 ERA+ through 29 innings of work. The 10-year big league veteran gives the Jays a calm and steady presence in their rotation that will be immensely helpful in a playoff push.
  • The A's will send a left-hander of their own to the mound in JP Sears. The 27-year-old came over to the club in last year's infamous Frankie Montas trade and has yet to really get going on his new club. This season, Sears has made 27 starts and is 3-11 with a 4.60 ERA, 5.23 FIP and 89 ERA+. If all goes well, the Jays should not have a problem making good contact against him today.
