It's not exactly ideal for the 2024 Toronto Blue Jays to be playing "must win" games so early in the season, but here we are. The club enters the day at 30-32, 14 games back in the American League East but only three games out of a Wild Card spot. Next up on the docket is the Oakland A's, who have managed to not be the worst team in baseball but are still awful. The Jays have a very difficult schedule coming up, so the time to win ballgames is ... now.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Chris Bassitt is set to take on his former team in Friday's late night affair. The right-hander will be making his 13th start of the year and has been battling some inconsistencies to kick things off in 2024. Bassitt, 35, just recenlty hit 1,000 career innings pitched and has been a work horse for the Jays dating back to last year. However, his 4.13 ERA and 94 ERA+ could use some work.
  • Opposing Bassitt will be left-hander Hogan Harris of the Oakland A's. Harris, 27, will be making just his eighth career big league start and second of the season. He's got a 3.14 ERA, 4.32 FIP and 125 ERA+ through 14.1 innings of work this year, but he's already got a pair of five-plus-inning performances and has been known to strikeout his fair share of batters. Bad team or not, Harris could be one of those random hurlers that just finds a way to have the Blue Jays' number.
