Toronto Blue Jays probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. New York Yankees, May 16
After an action-packed game on Monday night, the Toronto Blue Jays (24-17) and New York Yankees (24-19) are back at it for the second of a four-game set at the Rogers Centre. Entering the day, the Jays are just one game above the Yankees in a battle for third place in the AL East, as both clubs are still chasing the Rays and Orioles.
Probable starting pitchers
- Kevin Gausman will make the ninth start of his 2023 campaign this evening. The right-hander has largely been a steady presence in the Blue Jays' rotation, outside from a few not-so-good starts against the Astros and Red Sox recently. Outside of that, he is fresh off of a six shutout inning, nine strikeout performance against the Phillies. Gausman currently sports a 2.31 FIP, which is good for fifth in all of Major League Baseball.
- Opposite Gausman will be 30-year-old Domingo German for the Yankees. German, a right-handed pitcher, was expected to be the Yankees' long-man to open the year but a whole slew of injuries forced him (back) into the rotation. He has eight starts under his belt with an ERA of 4.00, a FIP of 4.37 and an ERA+ of 109 in 45 innings of work.
