All things considered, the Toronto Blue Jays have had a solid early-season series against the division rival Yankees through the first two games. On Friday, the Blue Jays squeaked out a 3-0 win on the shoudlers of an Ernie Clement pinch-hit home run. On Saturday, they fell just short but put together a pretty impressive comeback bid. In the end, the Jays lost 9-8 after staff ace Kevin Gausman struggled to keep them in the ballgame. We move on to this afternoon's matchup as the Jays look to secure a much-needed series win over the Bronx Bombers.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Right-hander Bowden Francis is set to make his second start of the season and of his young big league career. The 27-year-old went 5.1 innings in his first appearance of 2024, but it didn't go all that well. He struck out seven batters but also allowed seven runs on 10 hits. Francis dominated out of the bullpen last season and had an extremely impressive spring training showing this year. The odds of his 2024 debut being a fluke are high and it's likely that he'll bounce-back in a big way.
  • For the Yankees, 25-year-old Luis Gil will make his second start of the season as well. The right-hander went 4.2 innings in his last outing, allowing a solo home run as the only hit he surrendered. He walked three and struck out six as well. Gil has struggled quite a bit with durability over the years but he's not far removed from being a highly touted prospect.
