Backed by a strong start from starter Yusei Kikuchi and the bat of Ernie Clement, the Toronto Blue Jays got off on the right foot against the division-leading New York Yankees by blanking them 3-0 on Friday. The Jays (4-4) will look to continue that momentum with hopes to secure a series win against the Yankees (6-2) on Saturday night.

Probable starting pitchers

  • The Jays will have their ace Kevin Gausman on the mound. Gausman is coming off a strong outing against the Tampa Bay Rays in which he went four-plus innings, giving up just one run on two hits with six strikeouts. What prevented him from getting the win was the fact that he was on a strict pitch count coming off his injury during spring training. He will look to get his first win of the season against one of the tougher lineups in all of baseball.
  • The Yankees will counter with promising starter Clarke Schmidt. Schmidt, who had been experimenting with developing the “Gausman splitter” during the past offseason will have a chance to go head-to-head against the creator himself. He is coming off a sub-par outing against the Houston Astros in which he gave up three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Schmidt will look to bounce back and help the Yankees even up the series to set up a rubber match for Sunday’s finale.
