The Toronto Blue Jays enter Wednesday's contest with a chance at a much needed three-game sweep over their division rival, the New York Yankees. To the surprise of many, the Jays have simply out-dueled the Yankees in the first two games of the series and are looking to continue to make a dent in the Bombers' lead in the AL East. A Blue Jays win today would see them get to within just one game of the top spot in the division.

Probable starting pitchers

  • For the Blue Jays, 33-year-old Kevin Gausman will be making his fourth start of the season. The right-hander has kicked off the year on the wrong foot, going 0-2 with an 11.57 ERA through 9.1 innings of work, but his lengthy track record suggests that there's no real cause for concern. The 12-year veteran has three straight top-9 finishes in Cy Young voting and is simply far too talented to continue to scuffle like this. Look for a bounce-back in the near future, perhaps even starting today.
  • Former Blue Jays hurler Marcus Stroman will take the ball for the Yankees, making his fourth start of the year and second against the Jays. Stroman, 33, has began his Yankees career with a smooth 2.12 ERA in 17 innings of work, striking out 17 batters while walking just seven. He continues to be a reliable, durable innings-eater and is not going to go down quietly against his former team.
