At 8-8, the Toronto Blue Jays aren't quite off to the start that was expected of them early on in the 2024 season. Their -18 run differential is the worst in the AL East and the +21 by the New York Yankees, their next opponent on the docket, is the best. At 12-4, the Yankees look great so far this year and just recently took two out of three against the Jays.

Prior to this evening's contest, the Blue Jays activated catcher Danny Jansen from the injured list. Brian Serven was sent to Triple-A Buffalo as the corresponding move.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Right-hander Chris Bassitt will be making his fourth start of the year for the Blue Jays. The 35-year-old has a 5.06 ERA through 16 innings of work so far, striking out 17 and walking nine. He hasn't looked as sharp as he was expected to so far, but last year's performance suggests that he'll bounce back nicely.
  • The Yankees will be sending 25-year-old Luis Gil to the mound to make his third start of the season. The right-handed hurler has a 3.00 ERA with 14 strikeouts and seven walks through nine innings of work to begin his year. Gil is a former highly-touted prospect of the Yankees but has seen his prospect shine fade a bit over the years thanks to injuries.
