Toronto Blue Jays probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. New York Mets, September 11
The Blue Jays made it back into the win column on Tuesday night, putting together a 6-2 victory over a Mets club that's been on a tear lately. Thanks to some timely hitting and a bullpen that finally held on to a lead, the Jays improved to just eight games below .500, which is about the only positive twist to provide on the past week or so for this team.
Probable starting pitchers
- The Blue Jays will send right-hander Bowden Francis to the mound to make his 25th appearance and 11th start of the season. Francis, 28, is 8-4 with a 3.72 ERA and 110 ERA+ this year but so much of that is being carried by his red-hot performance in the second half. He's sporting a 1.96 ERA in 46 second-half innings, with over nine strikeouts per nine innings and just five walks across seven starts. Francis has been money for the Jays and is well on his way to earning a spot in next year's starting rotation.
- Opposite Francis will be left-hander Sean Manaea, who the Mets will send to the mound to make his 29th start of the year. The 32-year-old has become the Mets' ace seemingly out of nowhere and, like Francis has been on a tear as of late. Manaea has a 3.43 ERA and 114 ERA+ this year but his game has been elevated over his last five starts in which he's gone at least 6.2 innings every time out.
